Records document the fund-raising, reporting, research, and public relations activities of the development arm of Oberlin College from 1887 to the present. Unfortunately, they do not provide a consecutive account of the history of the Development Office. Both annual reports and administrative correspondence series are of modest research value; informational gaps must be filled by consulting related institutional holdings of the Oberlin College Archives. Well documented is donor relations; donor correspondence files comprise the bulk of Subgroup I. Of the capital campaigns, the fullest record exists for the 1954-59 Henry Churchill King Memorial Campaign. Valuable early reports to the Board of Trustees (1951-58) document the creation of a permanent development program at Oberlin.
